~ Duke Ellington ~

Brother Frederick "Ric" Nicastro, Fellowcraft in SW Hackett Lodge, and DJ on KSDS Jazz radio 88.3 fm, in San Diego, sent me this.

"On yesterday’s radio program, I played a song written in part by Duke Ellington, 'I’m Beginning to See the Light’.  In researching the song I read in Wikipedia that, 'Ellington’s inspiration for the song was his recent initiation into Freemasonry.  He was a member of Social Lodge No. 1 of the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia, Prince Hall affiliation.'

'I’m Beginning to See the Light

I never cared much for moonlit skies,
I never wink back at fireflies,
But now that the stars are in your eyes,
I'm beginning to see the light.
I never went in for afterglow,
Or candle light on the mistletoe,
But now when you turn the lamp down low
I'm beginning to see the light

Used to ramble thru the park
Shadow boxing in the dark
Then you came and caused a spark
That's a four alarm fire now
I never made love by lantern shine,
I never saw rainbows in my wine,
But now that your lips are burning mine
I'm beginning to see the light.
